• Trees and Our Life
  • At the lower elevations of the Alps are many straight and fully branching trees. But at the higher altitudes of the mountains big and straight trees are hardly ever seen and both trees and grass are scarce. At some locations at about 3,000 meters (about 9,800 feet) above the sea level are small and twisted trees that seem to be used only for firewood. However, to our surprise, the small and twisted trees have been used to make world-famous violins. In the same way, world-famous and great men have come from their own places of adversities and trials. Adversities and trials strengthened them and became powerful motivators for their success. "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3-4) From Rev. Dr. Lees column series "Siloam" on Dong-A Ilbo
