To make a refined hoe or sharp knife of a block of dark metal, the blacksmith must hammer, bend, and grind it. In much the same way, we are also refined by people around us. The hatred or hot-temper in us can be revealed outwardly through them. By casting away these things from our hearts we can be cultivated to reflect the love and gentleness that delights the Lord. Every person around us is one of these precious ones who can make us shine more brightly.
"Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).
